Working with Organizations that I Believe In

Who can believe that we’re entering Q2 of 2022? I know I can’t.

I figured it was time for an update since I’ve been somewhat radio silent on all of my business channels. I’ll be completely vulnerable with you and point out how absolutely ironic it is… my entire line of business is marketing. It’s highlighting amazing small businesses and nonprofits that I work with and telling the world just how epic these small businesses and nonprofits are and why they should support them. I encourage people in their own businesses to show up and show the world just how awesome they are… and yet, why can’t I do that for my own business?

Perhaps it’s cultural, maybe it’s “modesty”, whatever it is, shit is tough. It’s SO hard to promote my own work and to tell people “look at me, look at the work that I’m doing.” So, this is going to be two-fold.

  1. I’m going to commit to working harder on my business and not just in my business. What does this mean? It means that I’m gonna offer glimpses into the work that we’re doing at BD (Brittany Danyelle, LLC) and hopefully impact more small businesses and more nonprofits.

  2. I’m going to flip the script and showcase the awesome organizations - both small businesses and nonprofits - that I get to work with and I hope that you can support too!

I feel incredibly fortunate to be at this place in my life where I get to choose the people that I work with. It hasn’t always been that way, sometimes it’s felt like I’ve taken jobs or taken on work that I NEEDED to make a living, those may be a story for another day.

So, who are these epic small businesses and nonprofits?

CuriosityBased

My long time mentor and good friend, Dr. Julie Pham, started her own business last year and encouraged me to finally take the plunge and start my own business. In fact, she was my very first client! I’ve known Julie since 2010, when I first moved to Seattle.

Julie has always had a curious mind and I noticed that she was always encouraging people with different perspectives and different lived experiences to come together and come up with new and different solutions to modern day problems. Now, she’s living it out in her business. The CuriosityBased team is committed to helping people realize the power of curiosity to build trust, respect, and a collaborative spirit.

Her book, 7 Forms of Respect™, is available for pre-order and will be released in April! Seriously, support more women of color authors and leaders. Let’s say it again for all of the people in the back. We need more publicity on leadership books written by women of color. I’ve had a sneak peek as a beta reader and it’s a must read!

Speaking of leadership books written by women of color, the CB blog has free resources of leadership books written by various communities. She has lists highlighting books written by:

  • Women authors

  • Black authors

  • American Indian and Native Alaskan authors

  • Authors with disabilities

  • Hispanic, Latino, Latinx authors

  • LGBTQ authors

  • AAPI authors

The CB team also recently launched an online course for the 7 Forms of Respect to help navigate workplace communication and relationships. AND it’s only $25! Her 7 Forms of Respect helps change how you think about respect and helps you realize that just because you see something as respectful doesn’t mean everyone does.

Julie and her entire team at CuriosityBased are doing amazing things and I’m so grateful to be a part of the journey.

Find Ventures

I started working with Find Ventures in the summer of last year. I was hired on as their Director of Marketing + Creativity. Find Ventures is incredibly amazing because we believe in making ALL entrepreneurs a reality by prioritizing Black, Latin, Indigenous, people of color, women, non binary, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and low income founders.

The reality is that in the tech startup/VC world, it’s highly reliant on the old boy network and this ends up excluding so many brilliant minds and their innovative solutions.

So, the solution? Find Ventures partnered up with the Washington State Department of Commerce and we launched the Equitable Innovations Accelerator which will provide up to $100,000 in a community seed grant to help fund these ideas. The accelerator includes programming, coaching, and mentoring throughout the year too!

I highly resonate with Find Ventures, because similarly it’s why I started my business. I saw so many BIPOC-owned small business owners with incredible ideas and I loved seeing their passion flow through. I just wanted to help elevate them and the awesome things they were doing.

At Find Ventures, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we’re currently raising money for our Founders Fund which will give the grant to the tech startups chosen. Help by submitting a donation through our advisor’s Cauze, he’s matching all donations up to $2500!

RVC (Rooted in Vibrant Communities)

RVC reached out because basically I have an awesome network that looks out for me. *cough* Stacy Nguyen Creative *cough* thanks, girl!

RVC is a nonprofit all about promoting social justice by cultivating leaders of color, strengthening organizations led by communities of color, and fostering collaboration between diverse communities.

So, what does that mean? It means they do A LOT and deserve all of the support in the world!

  • RVC recently wrapped up their call for applications for their Community Impact Fellowship that places talented leaders of color in a two-year full-time position at local grassroots organizations that are led by communities of color.

  • Operations support. RVC helps manage partner organization’s operations so that the nonprofit organizations can focus on their mission. This includes helping with human resources, legal, and accounting.

  • Capacity building services include everything from Board training, to strategy and vision support, to facilitating team retreats, and more.

I’m telling you, they’re badass. Everyone that I’ve worked with is incredible and they do so much. I’ve met a couple of the partner organizations that they work with too (like Supporting Partnerships in Education & Beyond- SPEB and Alphabet Alliance of Color) and everyone is extremely passionate and doing amazing work in the community.

Support RVC and help them continue to have an amazing impact. Make a donation.

Each one of these powerhouses I have the absolute privilege of working with (and I created each of the designs for their social media posts above!) and I really hope that you’ll show each of them some love and support too because they’re all incredibly important to me and are making real impactful change in our world. The work that each of these organizations do speaks for itself in why I support them.

I hope that you’re able to do work that you believe in too. However that may show up for you.

Leave a comment and let me know about the awesome work that you’re doing!
